Product(s) Of The Week | Jordan Samuel Skin The Matinee Gel Cleanser & The Aftershow Treatment Cleanser

Jordan Samuel Skin Matinee Gel Cleanser Aftershow Treatment Cleanser

THE BLURB

I discovered Jordan Samuel Skin via the mother of all that is skincare, Caroline Hirons. She spoke highly and I listened. The brand’s founder, Jordan Samuel Pacetti had an 11 year career in dance, prior to training as a skincare professional. The products are inspired by dance, namely ballet, and were born out of necessity, to fill gaps that Jordan found in his own skincare routine while living his life on the stage, under bright lights and heavy makeup.

Developed and manufactured in the USA, the products are cruelty free and wonderfully minimalistic - no filler: each ingredient has a specific purpose, which Jordan is very transparent about and more than willing to educate and explain, when asked. He holds a weekly Q&A on instagram every Tuesday - endearingly named “Tuesday Tawks.”

As the brand only retail online and don’t currently officially trade within the EU, (shipping to the UK & Europe is possible but pricey) I put off my initial purchase until I could make a trip over to the states and save myself the $20 shipping fee.

The first thing I did once my flights to NY were booked was email JSS to confirm that they would ship to my hotel. The second was email my hotel to confirm they would accept the package. The rest is sweet, sweet history.

THE REVIEW

The Aftershow Treatment Cleanser

Did I Like It?:

Yes.

Why I Liked It:

It is PERFECT for taking off makeup. Second to none, in my opinion. It is obviously much more than a makeup remover, but, for me, that is the most standout thing about it. Everything comes off in that first cleanse (with the exception, maybe, of mascara, which I don’t wear too often.) Honestly - when I swipe my face with the flannel after that second cleanse, it is spotless. Amazing!

Key Ingredients:

Olive, Grape Seed & Jojoba Oils, Sugar Cane Extract, Aloe Vera.

Smell:

The faintest smell of citrus; oranges and lemons, perhaps. Almost like the smell of jelly sweets but not at all synthetic. Pleasant but not overpowering and does not linger on the skin.

Consistency:

Gel-to oil. Quite thick and balmy but not greasy. Spreads easily over the skin and doesn’t leave a residue.

Price:

$20 for 94ml or $43 for 240ml (approx. £18 / £37 + duties & shipping)

How I used it:

As a 1st cleanse, PM. I squeezed out a small amount (somewhere between a blueberry and a grape) into the palm of my hand, rubbed all over my face - including eyes, and neck to break down makeup and SPF. Wiped off with a warm, wet flannel/face cloth.

Would I Repurchase?:

Probably. Only if I was ordering a bunch of other stuff from the brand. shipping to the UK is currently $20 (yikes) and duties will probably be at least half that much. When shipping costs as much as the product itself, you have to think twice. So, until the brand officially launch in the EU, there are other similar cleansers that would do the job, such as my beloved Oskia Renaissance Gel Cleanser.

The Matinee Gel Cleanser

Did I Like It?:

More than liked.

Why I Liked It:

This is the cleanser I never knew I needed. I feel like it was made for me. A true gel cleanser that stays gel-like. It does not foam, it is completely water soluble and contains my favourite category of skincare ingredient: aciiiid! My faces feels super clean after use but not tight or squeaky. It has become my number one cleanser to use, everyday, twice a day.

Key Ingredients:

Salicylic Acid, Aloe Vera, Cucumber.

Smell:

Fresh. That’s the best way I can describe it. A nice, nondescript, fresh scent.

Consistency:

Gel. Thick at first but thins out as soon as you start spreading. Light and not oily in the slightest.

Price:

$28 for 180ml (approx. £24 + duties & shipping)

How I used it:

AM cleanse and PM 2nd cleanse. Like with the Aftershow, a blueberry - small grape-sized amount into my palm. Wet hands on a dry face, massaged in, adding a little water as I go. The brand recommends applying it to a wet face, but if you know me, you know I don’t like diluting my skincare - especially the pricier stuff. In the morning, I tend to just splash, rinse this off with water, in spite of my better judgement - as it is totally water soluble, it comes off just fine. I certainly have had none the usual issues I get when I do this i.e. with cream or oil-based cleansers.

Would I Repurchase?:

I already have. I got about halfway through my tube and went into a state of utter panic. This is truly a product I’ve found I cannot live without. Jordan Samuel Skin are currently offering a Summer Skincare set that includes this cleanser and two other products.

That Jordan Samuel Skin *Glow* - and no, I’m not wearing a stitch of makeup. Thanks for asking.

Jordan Samuel Skin retail exclusively online and ship throughout the US. For readers in Canada, JSS now including duties & taxes within the shipping costs (yay!). For readers in the UK & Europe, they are currently working on EU certification and hope to launch in the UK in Autumn 2019. You’ll find me here, counting down the days.

** UPDATE: IMPORTANT FOR EU SHOPPERS - the customs fee I was charged for this import adds up to an eyewatering total of £58.24 which breaks down into a £46.24 customs fee and a £12 processing fee. I love you, JSS but… Ouch.

While I am in no way affiliated with Jordan Samuel Skin and purchased the above mentioned items full price, with my hard earned cash money, I do have a refer-a-friend code, should you wish to use it. Get 15% off your first purchase by clicking here or using promo code FRIEND-NVNX69F
